Are you prepared for a plumbing emergency?

Columbus Emergency PlumberThere are many things you need to be aware of when you’re facing a plumbing emergency. To start things off, it’s important that you take steps to stop anymore incoming water into the house. In a plumbing emergency, the first thing you need to do is to turn off the water main to the house. The water main to the house is commonly located in the lower levels of the home; although, the water main valve might also be situated outside, depending on the home. Once the water main has been turned off, you can then start looking for obvious pipeline breaks.

After you’ve located the water main shut off valve and turned off the water to the home, you can then start looking for water valves for appliances or sink basins. If there is a plumbing line break underneath the kitchen or bathroom sink due to a pipeline burst, you’ll want to turn both the hot and cold water valves to the off position to prevent any water in the lines from coming through. Once you’ve turned off the water valves to the kitchen and bathroom sinks, the toilet, or any other applicable appliances, you’ll then need to take some temporary steps to repair the situation until a professional can arrive.

You may go ahead and call a professional plumber to come out to your residence to help repair the situation. Next, you should take cloths and duct tape, wrap the cloth around the broken waterline, and the use a piece of duct tape to secure the cloth to the broken waterline. This will help to slow the flow of water from the rupture in the waterline. Furthermore, if needed, you might also opt to place large 10-gallon buckets or other containers underneath areas in the broken waterline.

Once you’ve taken these steps, this will help to make the repairs of the plumbing emergency much simpler for the plumbing technician who arrives. They’ll be allowed to go right to the problematic area, repair or replace the pipeline, perform second checks on their work, and turn the water back on for normal service.
