Charleston Slab Leak Detection & Repair
We Do the Right Thing—Even When No One Is Looking
Pipes often run under and through the concrete foundation of a house. They are out of sight and out of mind until one of them begins to leak.
Now what? Does the slab foundation need to be replaced? That could be very costly and create a mess!
McAtee Plumbing Heating & Cooling knows that a home or business is often a person’s largest investment, and the foundation under it is an absolute necessity. The slab leak should be addressed immediately, as water can cause serious damage to a residence or business if it’s allowed to continue.
How to Tell Whether You Have a Slab Leak
Because of its location, it’s difficult to tell whether you have a slab leak. However, there are a few telltale signs that enable you to suspect something is in need of repair.
We recommend calling a plumber immediately if you notice any of the following signs of a slab leak:
- An unexplained increase in your water bills
- Water pooling in unusual places or where it shouldn’t be
- Mold or mildew growth
- Damp carpet or warped wood flooring
- Random warm spots within your floor
- Low water pressure
- An overworking water heater
What You Can Expect
Here’s how it works. Slab leaks can occur when pipes corrode with hard water or when the foundation of a building shifts somewhat. One of our experienced technicians will visit your location and use high-tech video inspection to pinpoint the exact location of the slab leak. Upon calculating the cost of repairs, the technician will provide upfront pricing for the work.
Next, a technique called slab jacking is performed to repair the leak and save the original concrete slab foundation. Small holes are bored into the concrete slab and a slurry mixture is forced beneath the concrete, which raises or “floats” the slab to a level position.
When the slurry hardens, a portion of the concrete above the broken pipe is saw-cut and removed. Upon removal of this portion, the defective piping can be reached and effectively repaired. A code-approved material is then back-filled into the area of the repair and the cement is replaced.
The process of slab-jacking and repairing the leak can save a homeowner thousands of dollars and a large investment in time and landscaping. However, only very experienced Charleston slab leak repair experts, like ours at McAtee Plumbing Heating & Cooling are qualified to do this type of repair for you. You can rest assured that our plumbers are state and locally licensed and can provide excellent workmanship in a timely and cost-effective manner.
